grounding techniques / Mar. 17
people have a lot of interesting ways to calm down. i used to look at something in front of me, name it, and what colour it was (like chuck in better call saul.) i've never really found breathing techniques that helpful, and usually only try them when i'm far too freaked out to breathe my way out of it.
my most recent revelation in this field is thinking about tactile feelings i enjoy. the way the chain on my bedroom door hangs. how cigarette paper feels on my fingers. picking the gunk out of my piercings (gross but very rewarding.) it's fun to remember what you like but seldom acknowledge sometimes. it's still not enough when i'm too freaked out to calm down, but just as fun. try it out!
